Virtual puck drops on second season for Toronto Maple Leafs and WorldGaming Network;
‘Chel’ Players to Face-Off for a Prize Pool of $20,000 and One Million SCENE Points;
Scotiabank signs on as presenting partner of Leafs Gaming League

TORONTO, ON, October 8, 2019 – Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs and WorldGaming Network announced the return of Leafs Gaming League, an EA SPORTS NHL 20 competition featuring online play and live events for casual and competitive gamers. Also announced today is Scotiabank’s support and involvement, signing on as the presenting partner of Leafs Gaming League. Registration is now open and players will compete through early January 2020 to qualify for the $20,000 Grand Finals and One Million SCENE points taking place on February 1, 2020.

“We are proud to offer Toronto’s NHL gaming community a competitive platform with Season Two of Leafs Gaming League in partnership with WorldGaming Network,” said Shane Talbot, Esports Manager, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE). “This season we’re introducing an exciting new league structure with four live tournaments and broadcasts, an even bigger prize pool, and a new matchmaking system powering our online play.”

Beginning October 13, NHL 20 gamers can compete 1-vs-1 online to earn points and climb virtual ladders on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Three LGL Online ladders will determine qualification for three LGL on LAN mid-season tournaments and the top performers across all stages will be invited to compete for $20,000 and one million SCENE points at the Grand Finals. Gamers throughout the ladder ranks will also have chances to win access to exciting perks and prizes regardless of their in-game performance.

Last season marked the inaugural year for the league, with 2,378 games played, 935 unique players and over 8.3 million social media impressions during the four-month season. Canadian Matthew Grenier (Gamertag: Yung Gren) was crowned the 2018-19 Leafs Gaming League Champion after a winner-takes-all showdown on January 3, 2019 at Scotiabank Arena. Season Two follows with a prize pool of $20,000 and one million SCENE points, three Leafs Gaming League Online matchmaking windows powered by WorldGaming Network and three mid-season Leafs Gaming League on LAN tournaments powered by OverActive Media Live, before the 2019-20 Leafs Gaming League Champion is crowned on February 1, 2020 at Scotiabank Arena.
